Freedom Leisure

Lichfield District Council commissioned the not-for-profit leisure trust, Freedom Leisure, to operate Burntwood and Friary Grange leisure centres from 1 February 2018.

Freedom Leisure is now running Burntwood and Friary Grange leisure centres.

In partnership with us, Freedom Leisure invested £1.6 million in modernising Burntwood Leisure Centre to make it more energy efficient and lessen its environmental impact, in a bid to reduce C02 by 392 tonnes a year, while also greatly improving the facilities on offer.

Centre improvements included a brand new 70-station gym, a new state-of-the-art MyRide cycling studio; offering instructor led and virtual sessions, a new group exercise studio, a new Freedom Café serving Costa Coffee, and in direct response to customer feedback – a new sauna and steam room.

The appointment of an Active Communities Manager is meaning that Freedom Leisure is devleoping and implementing an active community outreach programme for the district, to support our aims for a happy, healthy district with leisure services that meet the needs of the local community.

Why we’ve outsourced the management our two leisure centres
We decided to outsource the management of Burntwood and Friary Grange leisure centres as we must use our resources as effectively as possible, while encouraging more people to be active more often.

Where outsourcing has happened in other parts of the country participation levels have gone up and people have benefited from enhanced leisure services.
