National walking month

As May is National Walking Month we are introducing our individual step challenge to help get you get moving, whilst keeping your exercise in accordance with government guidelines.

The aim of the challenge is to increase the amount of steps you do on a weekly basis. To participate you need to record 3 days’ worth of steps, whether it be through an app or a pedometer, total them up and divide by three! We would recommend rounding your steps up or down to the nearest 100, as this gives you a round figure to work with.

This figure is now your baseline average, which you’ll gradually build up with each challenge.

If you need a hand recording your steps, or working out your baseline you can download our step count record sheet.

Weekly challenges

Week 1 –  Take your baseline step count and add an additional 1,500 steps. Your target is to reach this number on 3 days of the week.

Week 2 – Take your baseline step count and add an additional 1,500 steps. Your target is to reach this number on 5 days of the week.

Week 3 – Take your baseline step count and add an additional 2,000 steps. Your target is to reach this number on 3 days of the week.

Keep us updated with how and where you have been getting your steps in by snapping a selfie and uploading it to social media with the hashtag #Lichfieldwalkingmonth.
